After more than 7 years,
Criss Angel BeLIE
ve™ is closing.
I would be remiss not to give
BeLIE
ve the proper send-off that a show of this caliber so rightfully deserves.
BeLIE
ve has been, is, and will forever be, a magical, mystifying, emotional journey into the mind of its creator. At the time of its Fall 2008 world premiere, it was dark, it was mysterious, it was enthralling, it was magical. It was
something that, truly, the world of entertainment had never seen before, and it was something that I had to see.
I believed in
BeLIE
ve from the very beginning. I watched the show for the first time in December 2008 (you may read my review and journey to BeLIEve
here, if you like),
and looking back on it now, it was an experience that was magical, moving and special. I felt like I had unlocked the door to a magical universe that few people understood. I enjoyed the show for what it was -- a surreal look into Criss Angel's mind -- and that is no exaggeration or faulty recollection. The show was a great show full of magic and wonder, but many were not ready for a Victorian, gothic-themed, Cirque-meets-magic spectacle.
The vision that Criss Angel and Cirque du Soleil were presenting was quickly becoming lost among the doubters
and the unbeLIEvers.
Over the years,
BeLIE
ve slowly evolved and changed into another entity. It became less about Cirque and more about Criss - more Mindfreak-like, if you will. The Cirque elements -- the
Homage to the Rabbits, the dream-like sequences, the weddings and funerals, the dancing critters, the battle of good vs. evil -- faded away to reveal the star.
The Little Show That Could kept going -- I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I CAN -- and defied every odd stacked against it to become a magic-packed 40+ illusion spectacular.
BeLIE
ve is the #1 best selling magic show not only in Vegas, but in the world, selling more tickets than any other and becoming a global force to be reckoned with. The mere fact that BeLIEve has performed over 3,000 performances in over 7 years with Criss Angel never - EVER - taking a sick day
except for two dramatic life-changing events (Criss' shoulder surgery in 2014, and his son Johnny Crisstopher's cancer diagnosis in 2015) is an astounding, incredible accomplishment that deserves every type of recognition and praise.
On April 17, 2016,
BeLIE
ve is ending its unprecidented run with 2.5 years remaining from the original 10 year contract agreement with Cirque du Soleil. The story isn't quite over, however; in fact, it is far from finished.
BeLIE
ve may be taking its final bows, but the #MagicRevolution continues in the form of a brand new show, Mindfreak LIVE, which was successful in its own right when the show toured on select dates in 2014-2015.
Mindfreak LIVE at the Luxor is promised to be different, more amazing, more mind-blowing, and better than anything we have ever seen to date -- the culmination of Criss Angel's work.
I BeLIEve we have a lot to look forward to!
